Union County has an estimated population of 555,000 residents as of the 2016 census. This has made Union County the seventh-most populated county in New Jersey.
Union County was originally part of Elizabethtown Tract, which was purchased in 1664 by English colonists. The county was eventually formed on March 19th, 1857 from parts of Sussex County.
